3 Things to Look for in a Personal Trainer

So, you’ve decided to take the plunge and hire a personal trainer in an effort to reach your fitness goals. Before you hire just any trainer, however, there are a few things you’ll want to be on the lookout for to ensure you make the right decision.

Fitness Certification

Start by narrowing down your searches to only include trainers who are professionally certified by a reputable health and fitness organization. Ask to see proof of this certification rather than just taking somebody’s word for it. Professional certification will tell you that the trainer has undergone formal education and testing in the field.

Communication Skills

Excellent communication is key when working with any trainer, as there will likely be times when you need to contact your trainer outside of your daily sessions. “Test” a trainer’s communication skills by sending him or her a text or e-mail and seeing how long it takes for him  or her to follow up, along with the quality of the follow-up.

Positive Reviews

You can learn a great deal about a potential trainer by reading online, third-party reviews from people who have worked with that particular trainer before. By simply searching for the trainer’s name in your favorite search engine, you should be able to find some reviews. If not, ask the trainer for some references.

By following these tips when looking for a personal trainer, you can ultimately make the right decision and be well on your way to achieving your fitness goals.
