Give Up Soda to Reach Your Fitness Goals
If you’re a soda drinker, then you’ve probably tried to limit your soda intake as a means of reaching your fitness goals—especially if one of your goals is weight loss. After all, soda contains a lot of empty calories, with the average bottle containing nearly 300 calories. Even if you drink diet soda, studies have shown that it can inhibit weight loss and fitness goals.
At the same time, cutting back isn’t always easy. Fortunately, there are a few ways to make it happen without going “cold turkey.”
Try Sparkling Water
Many people enjoy soda because of the carbonation, so if that’s what you’re missing when you don’t drink soda, try grabbing a can or bottle of sparkling (carbonated) water instead. You’ll get to enjoy that refreshing fizz without any of the unhealthy ingredients or added calories of soda. You can even add a splash of fresh fruit juice for some more flavor.
Wean Yourself Gradually
Don’t try to “quit” drinking soda cold turkey. More than likely, your body won’t take to it very well because of the caffeine withdrawals you’ll encounter. Instead, try gradually weaning yourself off of soda over the course of a few weeks or even months.
Always Reach for Water First
Finally, any time you get a craving for soda, pledge to drink a glass of water first (make it easier by always keeping some on hand in a BAAAB sports bottle). More than likely, you’ll feel better after a glass of water and your cravings will have faded.
By cutting back on soda in your diet, you’ll be well on your way to achieving your fitness goals. To further motivate yourself, be sure to invest in the right fitness apparel as well.
