The human body is designed for regular activity. Nerve pathways are built up and strengthened by regular use. Flexibility is gained and enhanced by regular, gentle, stretching. Muscle strength is built up and maintained by regular exercise. Endurance depends on regular aerobic activity.

Create A Habit

Once you have started you fitness program, creating a habit of exercising on a regular schedule at a convenient place is critical. After a short period of time, your habit is to go to the fitness location at the regular time. It no longer requires great effort or a strong will to be there.

In addition to your physical and mental habits being built up and maintained, your body’s reaction to exercise will be similar. After starting your program slowly to avoid soreness and injury, you will reach a level of fitness that makes your workout easier. Maintaining that level of fitness, or even increasing it, causes much less mental or physical strain.

Consistency Makes Your Exercise Program A Joy, Not A Burden

The initiation of your fitness program took great physical and mental effort. Now that you have developed a routine, the exercises are easier. The mental strain to push yourself is gone. Even if you are working hard to further increase your fitness level, efforts to stay motivated are minor when compared to your initial efforts to start getting in shape.

When those who don’t exercise – or haven’t exercised in a long time – see people who are fit, some think they will never be able to match that fitness level. Usually, it is because they have never worked long enough to get to the place where the exercises become easier. All it takes is a little perseverance for a consistent program to produce results.

A few weeks of exercise will get you ‘over the hump’ and well on your way to the fitness level that is your ideal.
