3 Ways to Avoid Plateaus in Your Weight Loss
There’s no denying that hitting a weight loss plateau can be very discouraging. If you find that you’re no longer seeing results, even though you hit the gym every day and watch what you eat, it might be time to try out these strategies for breaking free from that plateau and getting back on track.
Add a Little Variety
Over time, your body can actually become used to your workouts. As a result, your body isn’t as impacted by your daily exercise as it once was. The best thing you can do to avoid this is to add variety to your workouts as much as possible. Whether this means hitting up the treadmill instead of the exercise bike or incorporating new moves into your exercises, make sure you’re challenging your body. Just make sure that you have the right fitness gear for whatever exercises you decide to take on.
Re-Work Your Caloric Needs
If you’ve lost a fair amount of weight already, it might be time to recalculate your daily caloric needs. You see, since you’re smaller now, your body may actually not need as many calories as it did when you first started working out. Consider lowering your daily caloric intake slightly (just make sure you’re not starving yourself) and see if that improves your results.
Consult With a Trainer
If all else fails, consider scheduling a consultation with a personal trainer. If you’re a member of a gym that offers this service, you may even be able to get your first session free. A personal trainer will be able to assess your workouts and eating habits to determine what’s keeping you from continuing to lose weight.
